My Gospel Reflection (What If?)

Matthew 17: 1-9 makes me wonder and imagine if I were one of Jesus’ disciple at that time. Maybe experiencing Jesus’ transfiguration is truly wonderful and somewhat scary.

action reveals all meanings..

Matthew 7:21-27 (Last Sunday gospel 3-6-11)

Saying something does not mean that you believe it. Just because we say God’s name, we will be saved. But it doesn’t go that way. We must first believe in Him. We should have faith in Him. And we should thank Him. And then, we will be saved and have eternal life with Him.

This gospel says that we should believe in god through our actions. We believe in him through prayer and going to sundae masses and not only on Sunday masses but also in every masses. The gospel also says that if we believe in him, we will be saved. We must have faith too, for it is the most important part of believing our God.We also show our faith to god by following his good and right deeds or doings.

following God’s footsteps

Matthew 4:1-11(gospel for last sunday 3-13-11)

Our wish, our object, our chief preoccupation must be to form Jesus in ourselves, to make his spirit, his devotion, his affections, his desires, and his disposition live and reign there. All our religious exercises should be directed to this end. It is the work which God has given us to do unceasingly.

According to this gospel, in everything we do, we must follow the good deeds of Jesus. As we live in our daily lives, we should put God first in everything we do. We do things according to His will. We talk to Him asking for guidance and help through prayer.

In our simple way of thanking God is to show respect to our fellowmen and it starts at home. We follow what our parents told us. We love and protect our siblings. We give something to those who are need. We share what we have to show our love for others. And most of all we pray and give thanks to God to all the blessings He has given us.

Action speaks LOUDER than Words

Matthew 7:21-27 (Gospel  for Last Sunday: March 6)

Saying something does not mean that you believe it. Just because we say God’s name, we will be saved. But it doesn’t go that way. We must first believe in Him. We should have faith in Him. And we should thank Him. And then, we will be saved and have eternal life with Him.

According to the Gospel, we should believe in God, not just say His name but actually believe in Him. Almost every Gospel talks about believing in God. It looks like we are reminded but actually we shouldn’t be. We SHOULD believe and have faith in Him. In this way, we will be saved.

To show that we believe and have faith in Him, we pray and worship Him. The only way we can connect in Him is to pray to Him. It is a way to communicate with Him. YES — communicate, because prayer is not a monologue but a dialogue.  Another for is to worship Him. It is a way to show how we dearly love Him, how we adore Him, how we respect Him.

We should also follow the covenant that He bestowed upon us — the Ten Commandments. And we should also keep ourselves from temptations so that we will not commit sins.

By doing charity works, we also show how we do our mission that was given to us by God. By doing charity works, we share the blessings that God has given us. It is to show that even though life is unfair, our God will never abandon us. Our God will find a way to help His believers.

Temptations

Matthew 4:1-11

Temptations. Life is full of temptations. Temptation may lead to sin. Still, it is till up to us to choose whether to be tempted or not. And many of us choose to be tempted.

Everyone is tempted. Not one lived out his life without temptations. No matter how hard we try to dodge it, it still pops out right in front of our faces. We can choose to shove it away, though not many of us can.

I do not know why but those who are not faithful are easily tempted. I think that it is hard to deny temptations because it may give us may satisfy our need — for the moment. In order to drive the temptations away is to be faithful with God. He always help us whenever we need Him if we are going to be faithful to Him. It will be easy for temptation is the attack of Satan. And if we have a strong faith to our Lord God, it will just be easy to fight Satan off because our Lord God will help us.

In the passage: Matthew 6:13, “Keep us clear of temptation, and save us from evil.” We should get away from temptations because it will lead us to evil. And we should fight against evil because evil things are just going to separate us from God.

Overcoming Temptation

March 13, 2011
(Matthew 4:1-11)

This Sunday’s Gospel narrates that Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness where He prayed and fasted for forty days and there He was put to the test by Satan. Jesus was tempted three times and each of the three temptations touches on Jesus’ identity as the Son of God.  The first temptation was to turn stones into bread. The tempter knew for a fact that Jesus was hungry, that He had not eaten for forty days. The tempter says that if He is truly the Son of God, He could command the stones to become bread. From this, Jesus responds through the words of  Scripture that a person does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. The temptation was to turn Jesus’ spiritual nature into a means of satisfying His material need without reference to finding the will of God.
The second temptation was to throw Himself down from the pinnacle of the Temple.  Satan then quotes from a psalm that says that God will not allow Jesus to be hurt. Jesus had escaped that temptation by showing that He was not just physical but spiritual, that He could accept the hunger and the weakness if it meant obeying God. From this, I learned that we should never put God to the test.  The spiritual nature of Christ retained its dignity and lived out its quiet, confident trust in the Father.
The final temptation was to compromise . Here,  Satan took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed Him all the Kingdoms of the world and its splendor.  Satan then tells Jesus to fall down and worship him as if he is the creator of the Universe. This temptation had to do with the fulfilling of the commission or plan of God with a shortcut – not following God’s ways. The mission of Jesus was to fulfill the call of the Kingdom and Satan shows him the easy way.  Jesus immediately rejects the offer. He once again quotes the book from the bible, every creature has to worship the Lord God, and serve Him alone and no one else.
Jesus was victorious in all three tests and will continue to do so right until the moment of His death. From this, He shows us the way how we too can be tempted and how we can overcome the temptations in our life.

“Thank You”

We all know that we need to give thanks to the Lord. We all know that without God, we are nothing. We must give thanks to Him because He is the only reason why we are alive. We must thank Him because He gave us blessings. One way of showing of thanksgiving to praise Him. Or to simply adore Him. Our pastor said that when we give thanks to the Lord, it shows that we are grateful. But how come we only give thanks to the Lord when we receive good news? Or when we’re in a good mood?

We must also give thanks for our bad moments, our bad experiences. When these bad moments come, we often think that God doesn’t love us; God doesn’t care for us. We’d think that God is not there for us. Our pastor said that we should give thanks not only because of the good things. But also because of the bad things. These bad experiences make us stronger. They make us a better person because we learn from our mistakes. And we also learn from other people’s mistakes. Once you realize your mistakes, you would stand up, and change, because you know that it’s for the better.
I realize that thanking for these bad experiences are good for us. It makes our faith in God stronger, and it makes you stronger. Even though we’d feel sad, and all hope will be gone, God will always be there for us, no matter what.

first sunday of the lent.

today’s gospel is Mt 4:1-11.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
2
He fasted for forty days and forty nights, 2 and afterwards he was hungry.
3
The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.”
4
3 He said in reply, “It is written: ‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.'”
5
4 Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple,
6
and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you and ‘with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'”
7
Jesus answered him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'”
8
Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence,
9
and he said to him, “All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me.” 5
10
At this, Jesus said to him, “Get away, Satan! It is written: ‘The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.'”
11
Then the devil left him and, behold, angels came and ministered to him.
12
6 When he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee.
13
He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14
that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled:
15
“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16
the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death light has arisen.”
17
7 From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
18
8 As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen.
19
He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
20
9 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21
He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them,
22
and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.
23
10 He went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, 11 proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people.
24
12 His fame spread to all of Syria, and they brought to him all who were sick with various diseases and racked with pain, those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics, and he cured them.
25
And great crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, 13 Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

today is the first sunday of the lent.

At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Jesus was fasting for 40 nights & days. after that, he was hungry. well, we should all not listen to whatever command that the devil will ask for us or something. we should not be tempted. because only the lord can command us & no one else. we should all listen to the lord & not the the devil. we should all TRUST in God.

Thessalonians 2:11~13

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

and we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.                         Thessalonians 2:11~ 2:13.

When I read and heard about these verses I can realize that the how God love us and how God think about us then we continually pray him, praise him and thankful to our father. and the Saint Paul said that “the word of God, which is at work in you who believe” this verse express and convey that mean if we believe and live in what Gods saying we can live forever with God and Gods saying.
